From Conflict of Interpretations to a Fratricidal War

The author reviews the case of a military conflict which broke out in Europe in 2014 with the aim to analyze the role of the Media and their extensive use of the language of conflict in fueling the confrontation. The article dwells upon a special role of mass communication media in heating up �sleeping� antagonisms in society by using potentially contentious language (further named �the language of conflict�) in social and political discourse, by consistent �constructing history� in public perception and provoking �conflicts of interpretations�. Communication strategies by which the language of conflict manifests itself in the texts of social and political journalism are reviewed in the paper, which may be used as a system of early warning signals of potential confrontations in society
