Abstract

Free radicals are well known to be present in the brain. They are molecules with a single electron and can cause damage to any body cells or mechanisms including of those in the brain. At the end of the day after going through a lot of stress, free radicals accumulate in the brain and body. Their presence is damaging and harmful. Also, it is well known that the levels of the hormone melatonin increases during sleep. It is known to cause sleepiness. It is in fact used to treat insomnia. It is also known to have good anti-oxidant properties. Keeping these two in mind, it is good enough to speculate the connection in between the free radicals and melatonin levels in the brain.
