Abstract

A heterocyclic Schiff base ligand bis (2- ( (pyridin-2-ylimino)methyl)phenyl)-4, 4'- (diazene-1, 2-diyl)dibenzoate (BPMPD) and its cadmium complex have been synthesized and characterized through UV-Visible, FTIR, 1HNMR and elemental analysis. The absorbance of forming complexes at ?max of 488 nm, molar absorptivity (L. mol-1cm-1) is 3.488x104, detection limit (?g/ml) is (0.010066396) and stability constant is 1.7x107. For determination of Cd (II) (0.1-4 ppm) at pH=8. Sequence of addition, conductivity measurements, the effect of Interferences and biological activity were also studied. This method applied to the determination in Cd (II) in water samples and the results compare with a flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
