Abstract

The sun irradiation and temperature has caused damage to the asphalt structure and the addition of antioxidant componentes can be a protection strategy. The objective of this work was to investigate the protective effect of lemon extract in asphalt samples challenged at high temperatures by incubation in a greenhouse at 120 ° C. The sample were divided into A1 (extract 5%) and A2 (extract 3,33%), A3 (extract 1,67%) and A4 control (extract 0%) groups. Some were treated with Taiti lemon extract (Citrusaurantifolia) to verify termo-protection. Chemical and physical properties as well as compressive strength test (MPa) were performed, and the statistic was performed by the Origin 7.0 program, at p <0.05. The A3 group treated with 1.6% of extract showed compressive strength (15.25 MPa) 24% more than control group (12.31 MPa). The data indicate that 1.6% of lemon extract added to machined asphalt adds greater compressive strength (MPa) to samples subjected to high temperatures.
