Estimation of the Functioning Efficiency of the Industrial Sector of Economy of the Ukraine Regions

Despite the slowing down of industrial development in Ukraine due to the influence of social and political, monetary and the other factors, the industry remains a leading form of economic activity with a share of 31.4 per cent in the volume of sales. At the same time, the problems of national industry are due to the domination of materials, the energy and intensive technologies, the high degree of deterioration of fixed assets, the low efficiency of industrial production. The purpose of the article is to carry out an integrated assessment of the efficiency of the functioning of the industrial sector of Ukraine's economy in a regional context. The research was conducted according to the author's methodology in terms of the resource and economic efficiency of the industry by a set of indicators. Integrating the values of indicators of return on assets and productivity, resource efficiency indices have been calculated, while indicators of operating profitability, profitability and return on assets are indices of the economic efficiency of the industry; proceeding from the values of these integral indexes, the grouping of regions of Ukraine by the levels (high, middle and low) of resource and economic efficiency of the industry has been carried out. As the results of calculations show, in 2016 the industrial sector of the economy of most Ukraine regions demonstrated signs of return to the efficiency of production and economic activity to the crisis level. In 2017, these positive trends have intensified. However, the problem was the deepening of the loss-making industry in Donetsk, Luhansk and Mykolaiv regions. At the same time, the highest level of efficiency in this sector of the economy has been achieved in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizya regions. The results of the integrated assessment of the industry's efficiency in the Ukraine regions provide an opportunity to create an objective analytical basis for making informed managerial decisions regarding the strategy of further development of the national economy industrial sector. The strengthening of globalization processes, at the same time, necessitates structural modernization of the national industry in order to increase its competitiveness on world commodity markets, the share of high-tech activities in the volume of production and exports. In this direction, further author's research will be conducted.
