Credit Policy of Banks in Conditions of Ukrainian Model of Monetary Transmission Mechanism

Abstract

At the current stage, Ukraine's economy needs to intensify lending, and improving the economic situation in Ukraine depends on improving the functioning of banking institutions and improving and optimizing their lending policy. The purpose of the article is to study the role of commercial banks' credit policy in the conditions of the Ukrainian model of monetary transmission mechanism. The basic scientific methods of economic research have been applied: the analytical (for the purpose of analyzing the dynamics and structural changes in the lending resources formed by the banking system of Ukraine), the causal and consequential (in order to justify the dependence between the development of the real and banking sectors of the Ukrainian economy), the tabular and graphical method. The article substantiates that the banking system is the basis for the formation of financial and credit relations and the most important subject of the financial market, and one of its main tasks is a properly developed credit policy, which should cover the most important elements and principles of organization of credit work in the bank and determine the priority directions lending. The scientific novelty of the study is to clarify the mechanism of interaction between the banking and real sectors of the Ukrainian economy, to substantiate the influence of the structure of credit resources on the direction and dynamics of economic conditions development. Practical significance are the ways and directions of optimizing the credit policy of banking institutions offered by the authors. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that the commercial bank's credit policy as an element of the general banking policy is a combination of both strategic and tactical decisions that determine the prospective and current objectives of lending, its parameters, procedure, and is implemented through the credit mechanism. The conclusions substantiate that an important element of the credit policy of a commercial bank is the justification of the direction of commercial activity of credit banks in the direction of determining the priority of investment and consumer lending. Further research will be aimed at finding the most rational directions for optimizing banks' lending policy.
