The article deals with the complex of key theoretical concepts of historical and biographical research, including "biography", "biographics", "biobibliography", "personalistics". It is emphasized on their differences, correct and appropriate use, their semantics is also clarified. The emphasis is placed on the differences in the use of this terminology. The term "biography" is considered as a special historical discipline that studies the experience and theoretical problems of biographical research, develops methodological principles for the preparation of various types of biographical editions, forms biographical information resources. Emphasizes the need to distinguish between "biographystics" and "biography". The creation of modern electronic databases and biographical information banks, which creates the favorable conditions for the analysis and systematization of biographical materials under a diverse system such as chronological, landscape, social, political, ethnic, educational, professional directions. equipped with the latest means of navigation, practically, for the first time creates favorable conditions for the analysis and systematization of biographical materials under a diverse system, such as chronological, landscape, social, political, ethnic, educational, professional directions. Formation of any sphere of scientific knowledge is connected with the development of the conceptual-categorical apparatus, which, on the one hand, indicates a certain process of research, and on the other - on the subject being investigated. The achievements of biography help to develop and analyze humanities, such as historical, literary, pedagogical, philosophical, and also include the study of historical facts from the biographies of prominent scholars and specialists. Consequently, biography is directly linked to various disciplines that are related to humanitarian cycles: history, pedagogy, book science, culturology. Like every science, biography, pedagogical historiography, personalistics have their own specific functions, with the help of which information on their purpose for historical and pedagogical research is established.
