Abstract

Textile, which has developed in parallel with the existence of humanity, has emerged as an important need. In this sense, weaving, which comes under the roof of textile, has been the object of use of all times. Weaving, which has a functional feature, has been used in different forms in every period. This product, which has survived to the present day with conditions (political, economic, cultural, climatic/geographical, religious) changing over time, carries cultural values belonging to societies and provides historical information about them. In this respect, it also has the quality of a historical document. Although weaving, which is an important cultural value of human beings, has existed in line with the needs, it has turned into an artistic creation and means of expression over time. Therefore, weaving, which takes a significant position in Contemporary Art nowadays and is an important technique of fiber art, has become the material of not only its own field but also different disciplines. Within the scope of the study, the aesthetic transformation of weaving, used as a means of expression, was discussed in terms of material and technique. In this context, the works of Polish Artist Marta Lachman and Turkish Artist Gül Bolulu were reviewed. In the study, the works of two artists who grew up in different cultures and used the same method as a means of expression were observed, and similarities and differences were investigated. In the study, tools such as books, theses, articles, and internet resources were used for a general review. Moreover, visual sources and interview data obtained as a result of interviews with artists were used. In this study, it was aimed to contribute to the literature by examining the artistic identities of both artists from two different cultures, comparing their works, and revealing the data obtained.
