PECULIARITIES OF A MODERN TEACHER’S PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE FORMATION

Abstract

Introduction. The modern system of higher pedagogical education faces the problem of updating the content, forms, methods, and means of training modern teachers based on the introduction of a competency-based approach to the development of teachers' training standards. The purpose of the article is to analyze the essence of the concepts «competence», «competency-based approach», «professional competence», «pedagogical competence» in modern scientific thought and to outline the role of pedagogical competence in the future teacher's professional success formation. Methods. To reach the goal, the following general scientific study methods were used: theoretical analysis, synthesis, generalization, and systematization. The study used the dialectical method in the analysis of competencies and practice of their application in the future teachers' training; a comparative method for analyzing the competency-based approach in education; a systematic method for understanding the process of the future teacher's professional competencies formation. Originality. Based on the analysis of different approaches to the professional competence of teachers, the author determines that the personality-activity approach allows analyzing the professional competence of teachers in terms of personal qualities and unity of general and professional competencies, based on the specifics of teaching, emotional and rational unity, the personal and professional. Conclusion. The author concludes about the importance of pedagogical competence as the first step in developing the future teacher's professional success. The formation of professional competence is included in the educational training program of teachers, involves mastering the motivational, semantic, and procedural components of pedagogical activities. Study prospects are the definition of a strategy of further professional development of teachers based on the competency-based approach and focus on achieving the professional success of teachers.
