TO THE PROBLEM OF DEVELOPING PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS’ CRITICAL THINKING IN UKRAINE

Abstract

Introduction. Modern science and practice defines the critical thinking skills of the individual as one of the leading in the rating of professional skills. The importance of it is confirmed by the practice of widespread using the technology for developing students' critical thinking in other advanced countries of the world. Against this background, reforming the primary education system in Ukraine necessitates the search for new content, forms, methods and teaching aids aimed at developing the critical thinking of students, including primary school pupils. In this regard, the main element of the New Ukrainian School should be such techniques and technologies that would help teach children to think, analyze and express their position critically. The purpose of the article is to substantiate educational and methodical support for the developing critical thinking of the primary school pupils in the context of the primary education of the modern New Ukrainian school. Methods. Analysis of pedagogical literature, comparative method, analysis of educational literature, pedagogical observation, activity product analysis, questionnaire, practical (experimental). Results. Educational and methodical support for primary school teachers in the process of developing students' critical thinking is defined as a set of teacher's competencies aimed at understanding the content of the developing different levels of critical thinking according to B. Bloom's cognitive taxonomy. Given that according to the B. Bloom taxonomy, the developing primary school pupils' critical thinking in Ukraine is most often in line with the first, second and third levels. The content of the tasks for primary school pupils should also be directed to the developing the fourth, fifth and sixth levels, i.e., to analyze parts, (differentiate, organize), evolve (test, critique), create (generate ideas, create, predict, plan, determine efficiency, implement). An important condition for the developing students' critical thinking is also the teacher's understanding of the problems of forming the socialization of the student's personality, linking learning with real knowledge and the environment, taking into account his personality, the use of group and independent work.
