Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify the workplace bullying in academia among faculties of humanities and engineering departments. A descriptive-analytical research design was employed in this study and correlation studies along with multiple regression analysis methods were used. The population under the study included faculty members of humanities and engineering departments in public universities of Tehran form which 532 members were selected through random sampling. It could be understood that assistant instructor women with tenure position in the university have experienced social bullying more than other types. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference between bullying and marital status of faculties in both groups. The results indicated that there is a significant relation between bullying and organizational and individual factors which highly predict the changes in bullying. Regarding the bullying in humanities and according to the results of regression test, organizational factors in comparison with individual factors predicts the bullying more significantly. Moreover, among the five components of organizational factors, two factors of rules and regulations and academic leadership, while having a significant and indirect relationship with bullying, more strongly describe bullying in workplace. Regarding the engineering department, individual factors predict the workplace bullying more highly than organizational factors. So that, among the organizational factors in this group, two components of organizational culture and academic leadership, while having a significant and indirect relationship with bullying, have more power in describing bullying.
