Caste and Politics

Caste has played an important role in politics for centuries. From the perspective of Indian politics, political parties have served their interests by making caste an issue. Regarding the 1931 census in the country, the British commissioner Mr. Hutton has written that it is impossible to have an accurate caste based census.
