Abstract

Among the famous founders of his people's modern literature a special place belongs to Panteleimon Olexandrovych Kulish. His word became a means of propagating his public views and contributed to the enrichment of the native language. The name of Panteleimon Kulish is among the outstanding translators of world literature. Due to the importance of this activity for expanding the horizons of Ukrainian literature and directing it to the European path of artistic knowledge of the world, strengthening the role of the Ukrainian word, based on the experience of his predecessors, Kulish strengthens the Ukrainian translation process. His artistic chants and translations embodied the idea of culture of a Kulish-European and a Kulish-farmer and contributed to the spiritual development of the Ukrainian people. Creatively working with the world's literary elite, Kulish often used art forms that were traditional for Russian and European literature, but innovative for Ukrainian. His translation style was taken as a model and skillfully continued by Ukrainian "neoclassicists" M. Zerov, M. Rylsky, M. Drai-Khmara, P. Philipovych, his tangible influence in the work of E. Malaniuk. Anthology of Ukrainian poetry "Strings", published in 1922 in Berlin by B. Lepky, presents poems by the writer, which represent him as the creator of qualitatively new art forms and at the same time reveal the essence of the "Europeanization" of Ukrainian literature. In the field of enriching Ukrainian literature with original works, the name of Panteleimon Kulish stands next to such world-class artists as P. Tychyna, G. Apollinaire, V. Mayakovsky, J. Brodsky and others. Researchers of the life and work of P. Kulish consider him a key figure in the Ukrainian national revival in the XIX–XX centuries. Only a few artists of the past can match him in the universality of the topics raised, in the scope and significance of what is written, and his translation work is a significant contribution to the history of national culture
