Abstract

The paper presents foreign experience in application of high-strength expanded clay concrete in buildings and structures, and sets the average density ranges according to the European standard EN 206-1 for structural lightweight concrete; it considers the world experience in the development of lightweight concrete with increased strength and the prospects for the development of highstrength lightweight concrete, marks a tendency to increase the share of structural lightweight concrete with a strength of 45 - 70 MPa in vertical load-bearing elements of high-rise buildings, pre-stressed prefabricated roof and floor slabs, and bridges structures. Based on the analysis and generalization of a number of experimental and theoretical studies conducted by various researchers (including the authors of this article), devoted to the integrated use of structural expanded clay concrete instead of equal-strength heavy concrete with natural dense aggregates, the advantages (both technological and constructive ones) of structural expanded clay concrete are given.
