CONCEPT OF DARK TOURISM IN THE WORLD

Research on "dark" or "suspicious" tourism in the West paints a clear picture of the phenomenon as an examination of past cultures' fascination with the macabre. As a subset of the travel industry, "dark tourism" caters to a certain audience. Than tourism, blackspot travel, morbid tourism, catastrophe tourism, conflict tourism, discordant heritage tourism, and others fall under the umbrella term "dark tourism." In this article, we investigate the origins of the concept of "dark tourism" within the academic study of travel and explore how this niche market of the industry might be better understood. Death capes, suppressed sadism, the commodification of sorrow, detrainment, black packers, darsumers, and death seeking capitalism are all topics that need to be explored in this context.
