How to Manage a Disaster: Clinical Case

Introduction: Early and correct management of dental trauma has overwhelming importance on the survival of the tooth in the arch as well as the social life and comfort of the human individual. Methods: This article presents the case of a young patient who suffered a dental trauma 9 years ago, and who was not treated properly, leading to chronic infection in the affected tooth' periapical area. The double fracture of the tooth led to the development of chronic apical periodontitis with subsequent inflammatory root resorption, discomfort and pain. The tooth was treated 9 years later employing orthograde and surgical intervention. Discussion: The healing process goes unexpectedly well, presenting no clinical signs 1 year after the intervention with the preservation of the tooth on the arch and lack of clinical symptoms. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and adequate treatments manage to preserve essential teeth on the arch in most of the trauma cases. The lack of communication with the patient as well as delayed treatments exposes the patient to unwanted complications which have effect on the patient's comfort and social life.
