Abstract
Construction planning and scheduling play vital roles in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects. However, due to the inherent complexity and uncertainty in the construction environment, traditional planning and scheduling methods often fall short in optimizing project outcomes. In recent years, simulationbased techniques combined with artificial intelligence AI have emerged as powerful tools to address these challenges. This paper presents an overview of the optimization of construction planning and scheduling using simulation-based techniques and AI. The proposed approach leverages AI algorithms and machine learning techniques to analyse and interpret large volumes of construction-related data. Data on resource availability, project scope, constraints, historical project data, and external factors such as weather conditions are collected and used to train AI models. These models learn from past project experiences and identify patterns and correlations that can inform the construction planning process. The simulation-based techniques simulate the construction project in a virtual environment, allowing for the evaluation of different planning and scheduling scenarios. By considering various parameters, such as resource allocation, task sequencing, and project duration, the simulation models generate realistic project schedules. These schedules are then optimized using AI algorithms, which take into account multiple objectives, including minimizing project duration, reducing costs, and optimizing resource utilization. The integration of AI and simulation-based techniques offers several benefits in construction planning and scheduling optimization. Firstly, it enables more accurate forecasting of project outcomes and identification of potential bottlenecks or risks. Secondly, it allows for the exploration of various scenarios, helping project managers make informed decisions and select the most optimal plans. Furthermore, it enables real-time adjustments to the project schedule based on changing conditions, such as weather disruptions or unexpected events. The optimization of construction planning and scheduling using simulation-based techniques and AI holds great promise for the construction industry.
