Abstract
Optical packet switching is considered as next generation data transfer technology in conjunction with mature electronics. Till date optical technology is not mature enough to be implemented. The foundation of optical communication is laid down due to the very large bandwidth of optical fibers. In optical communication optical packet switching and optical burst switching are two switching paradigm which are heavily investigated. This paper, presents an overview of switching techniques and along with the review of node design in switching systems.
