Abstract

One of the problems facing communities remains environmental degradation, mainly that of roads, due to rainfall parameters, soil nature and human activities. Faced with all this, populations develop adaptation strategies. This research aims to describe the different adaptation strategies implemented in the commune of Parakou. To achieve this, the methodological approach adopted is of a mixed type and is structured around documentary research and field surveys using an observation grid and an interview guide. Snowball sampling and reasoned choice techniques were retained and applied to interview the targets of this research. The data obtained were analyzed using the DPSIR model. Data analysis shows that communities are developing a number of anti-erosion techniques and operations, including masonry gutters and culverts, sandbags, and backfilling to counteract the effects of runoff water.
