Abstract
The paper examines metaphorization within the conceptual field “fear” based on five of the most frequent synonyms of this lexeme: “terror”, “horror”, “panic”, “dread” and “awe”. The study identifies the main source domains of metaphorical mappings and provides examples of metaphorical expressions for each domain. The author conducts a comparative analysis of the metaphorization mechanisms of these nouns. The article concludes that metaphors predominate in domains that are associated with danger or negative effects on a person experiencing fear.
