Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technologies has significantly transformed the nature and scope of criminal activities in India, leading to the emergence of cybercrime as a major challenge to the criminal justice system. Unlike traditional offences, cybercrimes are often committed across virtual platforms without a physical presence, thereby complicating issues of jurisdiction, liability, and evidence. The increasing use of digital communication and online transactions has increased individuals' and organisations' vulnerability to cyber threats such as identity theft, online fraud, and data breaches. This study examines the changing dimensions of criminal jurisprudence in response to cybercrime and evaluates the adequacy of existing legal frameworks in addressing technologically driven offences. It further highlights the need for legal reforms, digital forensic mechanisms, and effective policy interventions to ensure accountability and safeguard individual rights in the evolving digital environment.
