This article studies the importance of the level of professionalism of the personnel of customs authorities within the organizational and economic improvement of the activities of the system of foreign trade activities as the main mechanism to ensure the economic security of the country. On the basis of concrete practical examples there are considered lack of skills and the mistakes of the customs inspector in the provision of benefits and preferences to participants of foreign trade activities and their impact on the quality of state regulation of foreign trade activities in the country
