Abstract

Prisms are used in ophthalmology for the treatment of binocular function for over 100 years. In 1970, the US was reproduced Fresnel lens of 3M Company with a flexible membrane material polyvinyl chloride (Press-On prism). But in our country using “Press-On™ Prism” was limited due to the large value of purchases. In 2006 on the Ukraine presented new modified Fresnel prism made of polimetylmethacrylate. The objective is to study the effect of prism Fresnel binocular function and stereopsis in children. The study involved children aged 5 to 17 years with normal binocular function. Total number of patients 100 people including 44 boys and 56 girls. In study tested prism force Д5, Д10, Д14, Д18, Д20, Д24, Д28, Д30. Micro prisms of equal power were installed on one the basis of lens to the outside and the pair of eye the basis of lenses inside. On top of the prism installed red and green lenses of glass set. The survey results show that modified Fresnel prisms face value Д5; Д10; Д14; Д18; Д20 have no effect on binocular vision unlike Д24, Д28 and Д30. Acting on fusion, prisms high power causing diplopia phenomenon, and in some cases, lead to the transition from binocular to the simultaneous vision. Also, the modified prisms high power less impact on stereoscopic vision, unlike membrane prisms “Press- On™ Prism”
