In pre-revolutionary Russia attempts have been made to form state pension provision since the seventeenth century. By the end of the nineteenth century the effective pension system was established, covering a wide range of Russian citizen. Socialist pension system was based on completely new principles of functioning of pension provision, which completely destroyed the prerevolutionary undertakings in the sphere of state and non-state pension provision
