READING CONVERSION TO ISLAM FROM THE KADI REGISTERS: THE CONVERTS IN ANKARA BEFORE THE TANZIMAT

Abstract
The events of conversion to Islam in the Ottoman era had different reasons and procedures from each other. The events of conversion to Islam which were part of an unique story, revealed different patterns in the long-term Ottoman past. In this study, it has been tried answering to some questions according to the conversion cases recorded in Ankara using the kadı registers before the Tanzimat. Thinking of not recording some cases about conversion in the kadı registers of Ankara, it has been questioned what was behind that situation.
