Abstract

More in-depth study of the mechanism of the harmful effects of alcohol on the offspring has started only within the last 20 ? 25 years, although they have been known for a long time. Alcohol consumption has a fatal effect on the human psyche due to the destruction of the centers of the brain, which coordinate psychological, emotional, and motor functions as well as analyze actions and control behavior. Adverse conditions of upbringing in the family with drinking parents are responsible for delayed formation of communicative and cognitive activities in children at an early age. Typically, these children have expressed difficulties in learning, which are, on the one hand, due to the pathological condition of the nervous system, and on the other hand ? due to pedagogical neglect. The aim of this review was an attempt to analyze the effect of genetic and social contribution of parental alcoholism on their offsprings on the example of a contingent of mentally retarded people living in the boarding house Murovanka in Grodno region. Methods of the study: interview, pathopsychological examination, clinical history. It can be concluded that mental disability of the residents is associated with both genetic factors such as parental alcoholism and social deprivation in education in such families, where parents because of their alcohol abuse could not have the necessary influence on the development and education of their children.
