Abstract

The subject of the study is methodological principles of the study of Gogol's artistic conception of nature. The aim is to show that the archaic mythology and Christian religion in their opposition remain deep foundation for the New Time writer. Therefore, in the Gogol's casus is important to consider not only the landscape as such, but also such factors shaping the artistic image ? as "panic myth" in the collective subconscious pagan Slavic and intertextual role of the Bible, The author particularly focuses, as an example, on the story "The Enchanted place". As a result, in "Flemish-Ukrainian" idylls present macabre situations underside. Natūra naturāta (Nature created) is perceived in Gogol`s artistic image as "rebel of Creation": we does not feel the Creator's presence there; it rebels against her imposed morphology and tends to disproportion, ugliness, explosion. This opens the way for new reading Gogol landscape.
