Abstract
The article offers a modern conception of the given problem based on the analysis of the latest literature data. Deep vein thrombosis of lower extremities and its very severe complication - pulmonary thromboembolism, constitutes one of the most important problems of public health services nowadays. During more than 25 years of thorough investigation of this problem, epidemiological data concerning these diseases have changed and the problems of pathogenesis as well as prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism have been given concrete expression to.
