Article is devoted to a problem of defi nition of a set of functional character- istics of East Slavic god Velez based on systematization and generalization of historiographic these researchers from science, and also on the narrativakh of leaders of a number of the largest communities and the unions of modern Slavic adherents of doavraamichesky reli- giousness. The matter is very actual for domestic science due to the lack of separate works on the considered subject. The material considered by the author covers the period of the XIX?XXI centuries. The author managed to reconstruct fi ve main characteristics attributed to the studied deity that allowed to draw a conclusion that functional saturation of an image of Velez very variously
