Abstract

Concurrent CMV infection is one of the important cause of Ulcerative Colitis flare leadingto acute severe colitis and worsening. The prevalence of CMV infection appears to be 21 to 34 percent in patients with acute severe colitis . Colitis remission occurs in almost 67-100 per cent with antiviral therapy . Presence of circulating virus alone or CMV histological infection is not always associated with steroid resistance and may not require antiviral therapy. We present this case report of a patient who presented with Ulcerative Colitis flare and CMV was detected probably as an innocent bystander and the patient improved without antiviral therapy
