The Liseta Leporinus muyscorum (Steindachner 1902) presents characteristic importance for the inland water fish culture from Colombia, as their adaptation to artificial diets and the quality of their meat. It doesn ?t spawning in captivity being necessary their artificial reproduction with hormonal treatments. Breeders captured in the Sinu river in november 1999 and then maintained in captivity until may 2000 in fish culture Centre San Gabriel of the Corporation of the Sinú and San Jorge Valleys (CVS, Córdoba, Colombia). In this study is achieved for the first time in Colombia artificial reproduction of the Liseta with carp pituitary extract (CPE). Four doses were evaluated 3, 5, 7 mg CPE/Kg body weight. In the females, each dose was divided in two injections, 10 and 90% of the total dose, with an interval of 12 hours. In the males an single dose was applied, equivalent to 80% of the total dose of the females. In all the treatments ovulation was obtained, being of 100% in the dosages of 3, 5 and 7 mg CPE/Kg and of 50% with 1 mg CPE/Kg. Fecundity oscillated between 31009±3716 and 63900±33775 oocytes/ female revealed that there was no differences among groups (P>0.05). The males presented low spermatic volume (0.1-0.2 ml). The average diameter of the mature oocytes was estimated in 929±19 mm and of 975±16 mm in ovulated oocytes, it was not observed significant statistical differences (P>0.05) among these groups. The fertilization rate, calculated four hours postfertilization, was low with inferior values at 8.5%. This study suggests that Liseta can be spawning artificial with 3 to 5 mg CPE/Kg body weight.
