Abstract
The paper summarizes some contemporary governance practices applied in the EU and the OECD to stimulate regional development. They encompass areas of spatial development, economic development and integrated governance. All together it led to subsequent critical review of the effects of these three areas on foreign investment in comparable regions of Eastern and Central Europe.
