Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the status of preparation for School Improvement Program implementation in secondary schools of Assosa Zone. To accomplish this purpose, the study employed a descriptive survey research design. It was carried out in randomly selected eight (50%) secondary schools of Assosa Zone. In these sample schools, 111 teachers (50 female and 61 male) were selected using simple random sampling technique. 40 School Improvement Program committee members, 75 student representatives and 6 education supervision coordinators were included in the study by using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire was the main instrument of data collection. Interview, document analysis, and observation were also utilized to substantiate the data gained through the questionnaire. Percentage, mean, and standard deviation were employed to analyze the quantitative data, while the data obtained through open ended questionnaire items; interview, document analysis, and observation were analyzed using data driven category based narration. The results of the study revealed that the preparation made for School Improvement Program implementation was not satisfactory. Stakeholders were involved in School Improvement Program implementation without having prior training. On the basis of these findings, related recommendations were forwarded.
