Epidemiological Survey of Brucellosis in Bane County during ? 2008-2013?

Background and Aims: Brucellosis is considered as a major public health issue in many parts of the world, including Iran, where livestock is a source of income, employment, and consumption. This study aimed to determine epidemiological aspects of disease in Bane County, Kurdistan province, west of Iran. Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study on patients with brucellosis since the beginning of 2008 to 2013. Data were collected from the information available in health centers, private laboratories and offices. SPSS version 19 and descriptive statistics were applied to analyze chi-square and t tests. Results: The total number of probable and confirmed cases of brucellosis have been reported334 ?people. The average prevalence rate was 40/3 per year in the thousands. 51% of? the patients were men, 67/6% of whom living in the countryside and 2/48% of them, were doing agricultural jobs. Most cases were observed in the spring and June. There was statistically significant relationship between the residential location and disease outbreak but there was no significant relationship between their gender and disease, (p>0/05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the annual incidence of the disease in Baneh city is relatively high, so more attention was required in terms of prevention and control of these diseases along with a careful planning
