ROLE OF THE INTERNAL CONFLICT IN PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS FROM THE SELF STAGES TO THE POSITIVE DISINTEGRATION

Abstract

In literature self-awareness of the people, to be able to make accurate assessments and right decisions by the effective analysis of inner world and to make their own inner struggle against internal and external influences that lead him/her to evil seems very important. This study was carried out to examine the role of internal struggle and conflict in personal development through two examples of tradition and modern psychology. For this purpose, personality development model of Islamic thought represented by more Sufis and systematized around the concept of soul stages and Kazimierz Dabrowski's positive disintegration theory who had examine the personality development by using the psychological research methods was examined in comparison with the descriptive method. We have identified three main areas as the focal point in the investigation: (i) the start, finish and stages of development; (ii) development process and tools, (iii) the driving force in the development. Some results of our study are: in two models - albeit used different concepts - personality development is defined as a process leading from physical motives or selfness towards the humanization. As factors ensuring the development self-knowledge, alertness of the inner world, struggle with himself, development target / model are emphasized. The main decomposition point of two model is Kazimierz's approach to personality development as a profane manner.
