METHODIC PRACTICES IN ĀŞIK ÇELEBİ’S TRANSLATION OF RAWZATU’Ş-ŞUHADĀ / ÂŞIK ÇELEBİ’NİN RAVZATÜ’Ş-ŞÜHEDÂ TERCÜMESİNDE METODİK UYGULAMALAR

The Persian work Rawzatu'ş-Şuhadā about of Karabela event, which was written in 908 A.H. (AC. 1502) is a book by Huseyin Vāiz-i Kāşifi. Āşık Çelebi, one of the most important figures of 16th century Turkish literature, is famous for his work Meşā'iru'ş-Şu'arā in which he wrote about poets. He is also a prominent translator from Arabic and Persian into Turkic languages. He translated Kāşifi's Rawzatu'ş-Şuhadā into Turkish in 953 A.H. (AC. 1546). Afterwards, he revised this translation and gave it its final form. His choice for translating this work was probably due to his being “Seyyid”, a descent from the Prophet Muhammad. It can be seen that the text that emerged as a result of the translation was composed with an artistic concern. Thus, an important work appeared in Turkish prose literature. Here, the translator behaved just like a poet, having benefited from arts related to both form and meaning. As the translated text is compared with the source text, some deductions can be reached from the translator's methodical practices. That is to say, the translator has followed a certain method by considering the target group while translating the work. In this method, some practices such as word substitution, summarization, expansion, elimination, addition and localization are worth mentioning. In this article, it has been shown with various examples how are the methods of Āşık Çelebi in Rawzatu'ş-Şuhadā Translation. In addition, Āşık Çelebi's style and mistakes in this translation are briefly mentioned. Therefore, the translation has been introduced with its main features.
