Abstract
Introduction of cold accumulators to refrigerating units have allowed us to smoothen out uneven thermal loads on the units. Abrupt alternating schedule of cold consumption in processing firms with batch supply of raw materials causes peak thermal load on the refrigerating unit. If the refrigerant that runs in the refrigerating unit can cause freezing within the shortest possible time and reduces the defrosting period of ice in the unit, it can improve the efficiency of the unit. More so, in developing countries where power supply is epileptic and sometimes even when available is in low voltage situation, a refrigerating unit with cold accumulator and refrigerant with good thermal properties cannot be over emphasized. Sometimes power supply is more stable during night time period when some enterprises have closed for the day and even the electricity tariff is at the lowest, one may employ a refrigerating machine with cold accumulator to very high advantage. During the day the thermal load on the unit increases with the attendant increase in electricity tariff, the accumulated weight of ice assists the refrigerating machine to run normally by reducing the temperature of condensation
