Modern endoscopic techniques for the treatment of obesity

Abstract
The review presents new data on modern endoscopic methods of treating obesity, among which stands out the intervention on the stomach and small intestine. The article briefly describes the techniques of gastric endoscopic procedures such as the insertion of intragastric balloons or nonballoon devices, aspiration therapy and endoscopic gastroplasty, and interventions on the small intestine such as the inssertion of duodenojejunal or gastoduodenojejunal sleeve bypass, duodenal mucosal resurfacing and the creation of shunts by installing self-assembling magnets. It was concluded that bariatric endoscopy is a major breakthrough in the treatment of obesity, which will encompass as an effective means in a significantly increasing number of patients with obesity.
