Cytogenetic Profile of Children with Down Syndrome

Abstract
Results of Karyotyping of 76 Down syndrome children collected from genetic department at IOG to study the cytogenetic abnormality in relation to maternal age. 96 (73cases) of Down syndrome cases are due to non disjunction. Translocation contributed to 1 (1 case) and mosaicism to 3 (2 cases). About 64 cases of Down syndrome children were born to mothers with maternal age less than 30 years.
