Abstract
The article deals with research sources which can be used in studying of formation history of publishing industry in Soviet Ukraine and its development in 1920-1930. Main groups of research sources and their features are highlighted. These sources are documental base of knowledge about the particularity of numerous publishing houses in Soviet Ukraine. One can find a lot of scientific information in the documents of archive funds they are presented in administrative and report documentation and also in correspondence. Due to archive resources it is possible to analyze the material and technical base of publishing houses, their personnel and financial maintenance; to define main branches, forms and methods of publishing industry; to perform thematic-typological analysis of book publishing production and to define main branches of the activity of censorship organizations in the republic. Published documents in cultural magazines and scientific periodicals contain important information. Periodicals of 1920-1930 are important information source that refer to the category of mass sources and need to be analyzed.
