Abstract
The review considers the monograph by a Podillya historian A. Skrypnyk «The Russian Military Factor in the Social, Political, and Economic Development of Right-Bank Ukraine (1792–1865)». The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of the Russian military presence in Right-Bank Ukraine as a tool of the Russian Empire state institutution to implement Imperial realities in the political, economic and social life of the region. The author has thoroughly studied the national and foreign historiography, analyzed a considerable source and factography base. He reviewed the location of the Russian army and its units in Right-Bank Ukraine; revealed the issues of military infrastructure development, military logistics system and impact of these processes on economic and social transformation; explored the functioning of the army as a tool to suppress social, economic, and political upheavals and the like. Finally, the author came to the conclusion that the Russian Imperial army stood guard of the authority, colonial in its essence and aimed to exploit the human, industrial, and natural resources. He proved that the military administration functioning went beyond the traditional understanding of the army structure, influencing the social and economic processes, and manifesting itself in social and political aspects.
