D. I. Bagaliy versus / de O. M. Lazarevs’ky: «discussion field» in Ukrainian historiography of classical positivism age

Abstract

Famous Ukrainian historian D. I. Bagaliy's special scientific works dedicated to review and critique of O. M. Lazarevs'ky's scientific heritage are analyzed. Some common and different features in conceptual approaches of both scientists are clarified; general features immanent for their works are determined; range of questions for the most active debates in Ukrainian historiography during the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX centuries are extracted. During the age of positivist's methodological paradigm dominating in Ukrainian historical science both scientists used common conceptual approaches, similar methods and technologies of research stuff processing. Both of them used to strive for the highest possible full and comprehensive demonstration of historical sources informational possibilities. If any discussions existed, they were concentrated only on micro level, concerning some little nuances and individual aspects of the survey. The common features for D. I. Bagaliy's and O. M. Lazarevs'ky's works till the beginning of the XX century were tendency to descriptional writing and saturation of source's material, and – partly – lack of general conclusions based on the survey.
