Abstract

The article presents a survey of existing narrative non-Jewish sources which contain mentioning about the Holocaust on the Ukrainian territory. It describes the main memoiristic writings and complexes of materials which were collected in Ukraine.On the base of self-collected interviews of wartime contemporaries and the representatives of the first post-war generation the author has analyzed certain regional aspects and specific features of remembrances of local population about the Nazi genocide of the Jews, explaining some historical conditions which had impact on their formation. The article demonstrates how much and why historical past affects the post-war and current perception of the Holocaust in Ukrainian society as well as distinguishes the main reasons of difference in the perception of official Soviet model of historical memory in this issue between Western and Central-Eastern Ukraine.
