Abstract
The article is analyzing bibliographical surveys and reviews published in periodical «Kievskaya Starina» and dedicated to studying famous Ukrainian historian D. I. Yavornytsky's works. The author is clarifying these surveys weight in current historiographical tradition of evaluation Yavornytsky's works. Much emphasis is placed on reviews of G. Zhytetsky, V. Yastrebov and O. Lazarevsky. The article allows making a conclusion that discussion taken place in particular around "History of Zaporizhian Сossacks" were a demonstration of a peculiar confrontation between two different methodological science trends, two paradigms of developing Ukrainian historical science. One of them is positivism represented by the majority of science critics of Yavornytsky. The other is late romanticism represented by D. I. Yavornytsky himself in his early works. Critical and bibliographical surveysand reviews from "Kievskaya Starina" allow determining general level and forms of D. I. Yavornytsky science achievements reception by his contemporary historians.
