Abstract
The article analyzes the problem of national identity in the novel Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. The author also discusses the structure of the novel, the means of expression of the basic ideas and moral issues raised by the writer. The novel is devoted to the Holocaust of the Jews during the World War II and the perception of the event in our time by the descendants of the victims of the Nazis. At the beginning of the novel the main character mainly behaves as an American, but at the end of the novel she realizes that she is a part of the Jews. The re- searcher concludes that Jodi Picoult clearly defines the moral and ethical dominants that she considers to be relevant and the structure of the novel serves the purpose to reveal these moral ideas
