Abstract

The necessity of studying the phenomenon of playing time in space was grounded. The basic views of scholars on the phenomenon of play in the era of the New Age and the Enlightenment were presented. It was found that gaming phenomenon constitutes a complex and multifaceted notion, which a person gains through experience and perceives with senses and which promotes self-identity. Key features of the game determined by social, economic and political factors characteristic of that period of human history were identified. The essential characteristics of the game associated with such categories as energy, freedom, aesthetics, pleasure, competititon, transformation and improvement were distinguished. It was emphasized that the elements of the game should not be used separately (as a form, means or a method of pedagogical influence) but as a unity securing a comprehensive and balanced development of personality and achievement of educational goals.
