Abstract
The Drivers, Conductors and the Mechanic staff are the real faces of a State Transport Undertaking (STU), as the customers (passengers) need to spend their active journey time relying on the commitment of these people only. So, these employees need to be motivated, committed and involved in their job of serving the general public. This Empirical Paper, utilizing the Communication Approach of the Descriptive research design, analyzes the job involvement level of the Drivers, Conductors and Mechanic staff of one of the largest STUs in India - the Gujarat State Road Transport Undertaking (GSRTC). Analysis of the data collected from 400 respondents, using a structured interview schedule, highlights that the existing level of overall Job Involvement among these operative level employees of STU is at above average level only. It also reveals that the demographic variables like income level and designation of the respondents do not have any relation with job involvement; while the age, experience and education are positively associated with their job involvement level. Given recommendations can help to foster higher level of job involvement among the transport sector employees.
