Abstract
In this study, the topic of description in poetries of ‘Antara b. Shaddâd, a poem of mu‘allaqa, was studied. Classical pre-Islamic Arab poetry, whatever their topics are, contains different poetry types within itself. As a pre-Islamic poem, ‘Antara's poetries are far from being one-topic based construct. ‘Antara, like other pre-Islamic poems, did not handle description as an independent type but he benefited from it to transmit audiences emotion, idea and imagination. According to many literary critics, ‘Antara is highly successful in description apart from being a heroic and famous love poem by loving platonically to his own cousin ‘Ablah.
