Abstract

This article is devoted to the problems of the Orthodox clergy of Katerinoslav response to the February revolution 1917 and provisional government policy. The official position of the higher clergy of diocese to relatively a new government in Russia is trace in article. From the beginning of March 1917 the clergy began to actively discuss the revolution and form their own relationship to it. Church tried to radically dissociate themselves from the old regime and to show their allegiance and support for the interim government. In this way she expected some support from the government. The reaction of the clergy on these events can be traced through a resolution meeting of Clergy and Laity. As clergy and laity declared full support for the new government. Laity for forming their own attitude to the revolution relied on the behavior of the clergy, as they themselves had dealt with the situation. Thus the position of Bishop Diocese was decisive in the vast extent to the whole of the clergy, and it is often not ignorant of political events. We can assume that expressing willingness to cooperate with the new government, the church was preparing itself for its own field of activity. This is not surprising, since this position was determined by the clergy need to adapt to the new political realities, and most importantly – survive in a difficult time for the church to exist.
