Abstract
The article explains the role of the peasantry in the history of Russia, reveals the essence of the agrarian question and the position of the peasantry in the early XX century. The effect of the First World War on agricultural production and the life of the peasants is analyzed, reasons for dissidence of the peasantry and its forms are investigated, and direct and indirect impact on the February Revolution and the subsequent revolutionary events in Russia are studied.
